Guntur railway station subway closed until June 30 for repairs

Guntur: The pedestrian subway at Guntur railway station will be temporarily closed from Friday, June 19, to June 30 to facilitate essential engineering works aimed at addressing water seepage caused by excessive groundwater ingress, the South Coast Railway's (SCR) Guntur Division announced on Thursday.

The closure will allow the expansion of the existing sump and the execution of related infrastructure works to improve drainage and prevent water accumulation in the subway, particularly during the monsoon season. These upgrades are part of the Railways' broader initiative to enhance passenger safety and ensure uninterrupted usability of the facility.

Railway officials explained that increasing the sump's capacity would enable more effective collection and pumping of seepage water, thereby reducing inconvenience to passengers. During the closure, passengers are advised to use the station's foot over-bridges and other designated crossing facilities. The Guntur Division assured that adequate signage and public announcements would be in place to guide passengers and minimise disruptions.

The SCR has expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience and has sought passengers' cooperation during the improvement works, which are being undertaken to enhance safety, accessibility, and comfort.
