Girl swept away in strong stream currents while crossing in Hamirpur

A 15-year-old girl was swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross a stream on the Puraini-Uprahanka road in Hamirpur district on Friday. The victim has been identified as Pransi Yadav, who was returning home from agricultural fields when the incident occurred.

According to local reports, Pransi was crossing a small stream crossing, locally known as a rapta, when she lost her footing and was carried away by the powerful water flow. Two people present at the spot witnessed the girl being swept downstream and immediately raised an alarm. The incident took place in the Jalalapur police station area, where heavy water flow in the stream had created dangerous conditions.

Upon receiving information about the tragedy, local police and the tehsildar rushed to the site to coordinate rescue efforts. A search operation was launched immediately with the assistance of trained divers. Authorities have extended the search zone up to a check dam located approximately one kilometer downstream from where Pransi was swept away, as the strong current could have carried her body that far.

Officials confirmed that the stream had an unusually strong flow at the time of the incident, making the crossing treacherous. Such stream crossings are commonly used by villagers in rural areas to move between fields and residential areas, but they become particularly hazardous during periods of high water flow.

The search and rescue operation was continuing at the time of this report, with police and local administration working to locate the missing teenager. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by swollen water bodies and makeshift stream crossings during the monsoon season in hilly regions.
