Ghaziabad police arrest five in ₹24.85 lakh highway robbery case

Ghaziabad's Wave City police have cracked a sensational robbery case involving ₹24.85 lakh, arresting five accused persons after an encounter and intensive checking operation. The breakthrough came days after armed miscreants looted the cash at gunpoint on the busy Delhi-Meerut Road. Police recovered ₹10,05,310 in cash, two illegal pistols, live and empty cartridges, and a Splendor bike without number plates from the accused.

The incident dates back to August 21, when Gilman, a resident of Meerut, filed a complaint stating that men in a Scorpio vehicle overtook his car on the Delhi-Meerut Road and robbed him of ₹24.85 lakh at gunpoint. To crack the case, police launched a massive investigation, scanning footage from 500 to 600 CCTV cameras and analyzing mobile location data along with other technical evidence to track down the culprits.

On August 25, police received intelligence about the suspects' movements. An encounter followed, during which two accused were apprehended and sustained gunshot injuries in the exchange of fire. Subsequently, three more accused were arrested with a portion of the stolen money. In total, five suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the robbery.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to executing the crime in collaboration with several accomplices and revealed that they had conducted reconnaissance of the target beforehand. The gang had meticulously planned the operation to ensure a swift getaway after the loot. Police are now conducting raids to nab the remaining absconding accused who were part of the criminal conspiracy.

Further legal proceedings are underway, and the investigation continues to establish the complete network behind the robbery. The Wave City police's swift action has been praised for recovering a significant portion of the looted amount and bringing the accused to justice.
