Bahraich police arrest serial thief with illegal firearm and ammunition

Acting on a tip-off received from an informer about a suspicious individual, the Hardi police station team intercepted and arrested Premkumar Chauhan, son of Teerthram Chauhan, resident of village Airiya under Hardi police station in Bahraich district, near Chheetanpurwa Daad Hardi Gaura. Police recovered one illegal .12 bore country-made pistol and one live .12 bore cartridge from his possession.

The arrest was made following directions issued by Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava to prevent theft incidents and apprehend criminals involved in such crimes. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari and Circle Officer Mahsi Pawan Kumar, led by Hardi Station House Officer Alok Singh.

Based on the recovery, police registered case number 294/2026 under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act at Hardi police station. The arrested accused was sent to the honorable court following due legal process.

Premkumar Chauhan has an extensive criminal history spanning multiple districts, with thirteen prior cases registered against him. His criminal record includes case number 40/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS at Kotwali Dehat Bahraich, case number 636/2024 under Section 303(2) BNS at Kotwali Dehat Bahraich, case number 617/2023 under Sections 379, 411 and IPC at Payagpur Bahraich, and case number 1144/2023 under Sections 379, 411, 420, 467, 468 and IPC at Kotwali Nagar in Barabanki district.

His criminal record further includes case number 1026/2023 under Sections 379, 411 and IPC at Dewa Sharif Barabanki, case number 138/2024 under Sections 379, 411 and IPC at Khairighat Bahraich, case number 753/2023 under Sections 379, 411 and IPC at Nanpara Bahraich, and case number 231/2025 under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) BNS at Ramgaon Bahraich.

The arrest team comprised Sub-Inspector Rajendra Yadav, Head Constable Ramanand Yadav, Head Constable Ranvijay Yadav, and Constable Rohit Yadav.
