Family of four injured as neighbor's mud wall collapses during heavy rain in UP

Four members of a family were injured when a dilapidated mud wall collapsed on their house during heavy rain in Pratapgarh district on Monday night. The incident occurred around 3 am in Hanuman ka Purwa area of Sarai Bahelia village under Dehat Kotwali police station jurisdiction.

Rambaboo, 45, was sleeping with his wife Kusum and their two children, Devanshi, 7, and Divyanshu, 5, when a neighbor's crumbling mud wall belonging to Rambhulun gave way due to the rainfall. The collapsing structure brought down the rear boundary wall of Rambaboo's pucca house, trapping all four family members under the debris. Devanshi suffered critical injuries in the collapse and has been referred to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj from the district hospital for advanced treatment. The other three family members also sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment.

Villagers rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and pulled the trapped family out from under the rubble before transporting them to the district hospital. However, the local administration was informed of the accident only around 3 pm on Monday afternoon, several hours after it occurred. District Magistrate Abhishek Pandey visited the site around 6:30 pm in the evening to assess the situation and met with the affected family to inquire about their condition.

Taking serious note of the delayed reporting and negligence in duty, the District Magistrate suspended the area Lekhpal for failing to inform the administration promptly. Pandey assured the victims that government financial assistance would be provided as per rules, and the administration has initiated relief measures for the family. The incident highlights the dangers posed by aging structures during the monsoon season.
