A tourist visiting Dubai experienced an unexpected turn of events when she misplaced Dh3,000 (approximately Rs 76,000) during a shopping trip at a bustling mall. Despite her imminent departure, Dubai Police successfully recovered the money and ensured its safe transfer to her bank account after she had returned to her home country.
The Arab tourist discovered the loss shortly before her scheduled flight and reported the incident to Dubai Police's tourist support service. She explained that her tight travel schedule left her with no time to search for the missing cash herself. In response, the police assured her that they would continue their efforts to locate the money and promised to send it to her home country if found.
Lt. Col. Mohammed Abdul Rahman, Director of the Tourist Police Department, stated that a field team from the Shopping Centres Security Section was immediately assigned to investigate the case. The team retraced the tourist's movements inside the mall and, within two hours, successfully located the full amount at one of the stores.
The officers verified the recovered sum by matching the total amount and the number of banknotes with the details provided in the tourist’s report. Once the verification process was complete, Dubai Police contacted the woman and arranged for the money to be transferred to her bank account.
The tourist expressed her gratitude for the swift and efficient response, admitting that she had little hope of recovering the cash, especially after leaving Dubai and considering the size and crowded nature of the shopping centre. She praised the professionalism and integrity of Dubai Police, describing the experience as a reflection of the safety and reliability she encountered during her visit.
This incident adds to Dubai Police's growing record of recovering lost valuables. Earlier this month, they returned a misplaced bag containing luxury watches worth over Dh100,000 and electronic devices to a GCC traveller at Dubai International Airport. In May, authorities recovered a handbag containing silver bars valued at Dh2 million and returned it to an Asian passenger following a search operation.
