Banda city paralyzed as heavy rains trigger severe waterlogging, schools shut

Banda city in Uttar Pradesh has been submerged following relentless heavy rainfall, bringing normal life to a grinding halt. Severe waterlogging across multiple neighborhoods and major roads has left residents struggling with basic movement, with two-wheelers getting stuck in floodwater and rainwater entering homes in several areas. The District Magistrate has ordered the closure of all schools in view of the continuing downpour.

The rainfall over the past day has exposed serious inadequacies in Banda's drainage infrastructure. Several localities and main thoroughfares remain inundated, with roads overflowing with water and making it extremely difficult for people to step out of their homes. Motorcycles have been seen stranded in waterlogged streets, while in some pockets rainwater has breached residential properties, causing distress to families.

Local residents have expressed anger toward the municipal authorities over what they describe as poor maintenance and planning. Many have alleged that had the drains been properly cleaned and an efficient drainage system been put in place, the waterlogging crisis would not have escalated to such alarming proportions. The persistent rainfall has raised concerns that conditions in the city could deteriorate further if the downpour continues unabated.

In response to the worsening weather, the District Magistrate has issued orders to keep all schools shut as a precautionary measure. The administrative move aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the hazardous conditions prevailing across Banda. The situation remains tense as civic authorities scramble to pump out water and restore normalcy, while residents wait for relief from both the rain and the administrative apathy they blame for the city's unpreparedness.
