Youth arrested in Pratapgarh for viral assault video and fresh threats
A youth in Pratapgarh has been charged by police for making a viral assault video on social media and threatening to beat the victim again.
Police at Dilippur station took preventive action against the accused after he was found circulating the video and issuing fresh threats. According to police, the investigation was part of ongoing checks in the area, examination of complaint applications and inquiries related to case number 199/2026. Officers were looking into the viral video when they apprehended the suspect.
The accused was detained near Baba Belkharnath Dham temple in village Yahiyapur. He has been identified as Safwan alias Hanzla son of Gulhasan Sheikh alias Lala, a resident of Yahiyapur under Dilippur police station jurisdiction, aged approximately 19 years.
During questioning, police said the youth argued with officers and stated he would assault Sumit Vishwakarma again. He also threatened to circulate the video on a larger scale, police added. Fearing a breach of peace and law and order, police took preventive action against him under sections 170, 126 and 135 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. A challan report has been sent to court.
The police team that conducted the action included Sub-Inspector Devendra Kumar Pathak and Recruit Constable Satya Kumar.
