The dramatic confrontation unfolded on August 21 when police conducting routine vehicle checks near Bhumma Chowki spotted a suspicious motorcyclist heading from Tulhaidi who fled upon seeing officers.

According to police, the suspect attempted to escape along a dirt track beside a canal. When his motorcycle went out of control and crashed, he abandoned the vehicle and continued fleeing on foot. During the chase, the accused allegedly opened fire at the pursuing police team. Despite repeated calls to surrender, he fired again, forcing officers to return fire in self-defense. A bullet struck his left leg, leading to his capture in an injured condition. He was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

The arrested man has been identified as Jafar Ali, 32, son of Bahadur Ali, a resident of Asifabad village in Kila Parikshitgarh, Meerut. Police recovered a .315 bore illegal pistol, one live cartridge, two spent cartridges, and a numberless Splendor motorcycle from his possession. Jafar Ali was wanted in connection with a case registered at Crossing Republik, Ghaziabad, where authorities had announced a 25,000 rupee reward for information leading to his arrest.

Investigators reveal that the accused has multiple criminal cases registered against him across Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Chhattisgarh. Police are currently gathering details about his complete criminal history and examining his involvement in other offenses. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma, with SP Rural Akshay Sanjay Mahadik, Circle Officer Jansath Rishika Singh, and Meerpur Station In-charge Rajeev Sharma leading the team on the ground.
