Viral fever outbreak overwhelms health centre in Shravasti district

A viral fever outbreak has gripped the Jamunaha block area of Shravasti district, with the Community Health Centre in Malhipur recording a sharp surge in patients. The facility is now treating between 350 and 400 patients daily in its outpatient department, overwhelmed by cases linked to changing weather patterns and continuous rainfall in the region.

Dr Siddhesh Verma, General Physician at CHC Malhipur, confirmed that viral fever cases are climbing steadily. Most patients are presenting with cold, cough, fever, body ache, and weakness. The unseasonable weather conditions and persistent rains have created an environment conducive to the spread of viral infections, prompting health authorities to issue precautionary advisories.

Dr Verma has urged residents to exercise caution during the rainy season. He emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness, avoiding contaminated water, and staying away from food items kept in the open. He also stressed that anyone experiencing fever or other symptoms should consult a doctor immediately rather than self-medicating.

The health department has responded to the rising patient load by mobilizing resources to ensure better healthcare facilities at the centre. Officials are monitoring the situation closely as the outbreak continues to affect daily life in the Jamunaha development block. The spike in cases highlights the vulnerability of rural populations to seasonal health crises, particularly in areas where public health infrastructure is already stretched thin.

Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures, including boiling drinking water, ensuring proper ventilation at home, and avoiding crowded places wherever possible.
