Uttar Pradesh Rain: Red Alert In 8 Districts, Schools Shut For 2 Days

Uttar Pradesh is facing continuing disruption from heavy rain, with a red alert, a flash flood warning and damage reported from several areas after continuous rainfall led to waterlogging, choked drains and disruption in power supply.

Trees have fallen on several roads amid the downpour. Police have appealed to people to inform emergency services on 112 in case of any urgent situation.

In Jamunha’s Malhipur Khurd, a wall of a kutcha house collapsed during the rain. Around 20-year-old Mahmood Raza was injured after being buried under the debris. His family members removed the debris and pulled him out. He is undergoing treatment at CHC Malhipur.

The IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rain till 8:30 am on September 27. The warning also includes thunder and lightning, lightning strikes and strong winds.

The administration has directed that all schools remain closed for two days. People have also been appealed to avoid stepping out unnecessarily and to stay safe.

A rain and flash flood alert is in place in Uttar Pradesh. A red alert has been issued for 8 districts on September 26-27. Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit and Shahjahanpur have been warned of very heavy rainfall.

On September 26, a flash flood, or sudden flood, alert has been issued for 32 districts. Azamgarh, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar and Maharajganj are among the 32 districts on alert. Lucknow, Unnao, Raebareli, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Gonda, Bahraich and Sitapur are also included.

Over excessive rainfall, CM Yogi has issued directions to officials. Senior officers have been told to go to the field and monitor relief and rescue work. Instructions have also been given to provide every possible help to affected families.

CM Yogi has appealed to people not to step out of their homes unnecessarily during lightning and excessive rainfall. He has also asked people to avoid bathing in rivers and reservoirs and to take special precautions.
