Uttar Pradesh launches free electric tricycles for specially-abled female students

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a new initiative to support specially-abled female students by providing free electric tricycles to ease their commute to schools and colleges. District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, Ravindra Kumar Mandad, announced the scheme, emphasizing its aim to promote self-reliance and accessibility for students facing mobility challenges.

Under this scheme, eligible female students studying in recognized schools and colleges will receive free e-tricycles. Speaking about the initiative, Mandad stated, "Many specially-abled students face difficulties traveling to educational institutions. With the availability of e-tricycles, their dependence on others will reduce, enabling them to commute safely and conveniently. This will not only encourage regular attendance but also boost their confidence and independence."

To qualify for the scheme, applicants must meet specific criteria. Students should be at least 16 years old, have a disability of 40% or more, and possess functional hands with normal vision and mental health to operate the e-tricycle safely. Additionally, they must not have received a motorized or electric tricycle from any government scheme in the past five years.

Eligible students can apply online at https://hwd.uphq.in/Home. Required documents include Aadhaar card, disability certificate (UDID card), income proof (if applicable), and proof of enrollment in a recognized educational institution. The District Magistrate urged all eligible students and their families to apply promptly, highlighting the administration's commitment to reducing barriers to education for specially-abled students and fostering their independence.
