UP cop's rare blood donation saves elderly woman's life during emergency surgery

A police officer in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, saved an elderly woman's life by donating his rare A-negative blood after local blood banks ran out of stock. Sub-Inspector Rajkumar Mishra, posted as in-charge of Kishunganj police post under Kandhai police station, rushed to Asha Charitable Blood Centre in Balipur after receiving an urgent call from the Raktdaan Sansthan blood donation organization.

The recipient, 68-year-old Sukanya Devi, a resident of Paltan Bazaar in Pratapgarh, was admitted to Geeta Hospital for a hip operation. Her hemoglobin levels had dropped critically low, and doctors insisted she receive a blood transfusion before surgery could proceed. When no A-negative blood could be found at any blood bank in the city, the Raktdaan Sansthan contacted Mishra, who immediately donated blood and played a crucial role in saving her life and ensuring the operation could be performed safely.

Nirmal Kumar Pandey, president of Raktdaan Sansthan, praised the officer's commitment, noting that Mishra has been a regular A-negative donor who responds instantly whenever the rare blood type is needed. The blood bank's founder, Amit Singh, honored Mishra with a certificate of appreciation for his service.

In related developments, the organization also arranged blood donations for two other critical patients. A unit of blood was provided to 28-year-old Suman Devi, seven months pregnant and admitted to the District Women's Hospital with severe anemia and jaundice, with help from Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Ramesh Pandey. Another unit was supplied to Vikas Upadhyay from Maharajganj, Jaunpur, who was hospitalized at Maa Sharda Hospital with severe anemia. The families of all patients expressed gratitude to the blood donation organization and the medical staff for their timely intervention.
