Unidentified Vehicle Hits Auto In Hathras, One Dead, Five Injured

An elderly man died and five other members of his family were injured after an unidentified vehicle collided with a passenger-filled auto-rickshaw near Khitoli village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district. The accident took place on Monday afternoon in the Sasni Kotwali area. Following the collision, the auto-rickshaw overturned on the roadside.

The deceased was identified as 62-year-old Puran Singh, son of Nauhbat Singh. He was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The other five members of the same family suffered minor injuries.

According to the information available, Puran Singh, a resident of Aturra Bisawar village in the Sadabad area, was travelling with his family in the auto-rickshaw at around 12 pm on Monday. The family was on its way to Kodiacanj village in the Sasni area to attend a mourning programme organised at the in-laws’ home of his son, Suraj.

When the auto-rickshaw reached near Khitoli village, an unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit it forcefully. The impact was so strong that the auto-rickshaw was badly damaged and overturned on the roadside.

Puran Singh fell onto the road and suffered serious injuries. Other members of his family were also hurt in the crash. The injured included his 22-day-old granddaughter, who also sustained injuries in the accident.

After the collision, a crowd of passers-by gathered at the spot. On receiving information, Gohana outpost in-charge Jugendra Singh reached the location with police personnel. With the help of an ambulance, all the injured people were taken to the Sasni Community Health Centre.

At the health centre, doctors declared Puran Singh dead. The other injured people were given primary treatment and discharged afterwards.

News of Puran Singh’s death led to grief in the family. His relatives were inconsolable and were seen crying. It was reported that Puran Singh worked as a daily-wage labourer and supported his family through his earnings.

Police took the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination. After the accident, a search was also launched for the unidentified vehicle and its driver, who fled the spot.
