Under Mission Shakti Phase-6.0, Hathras Police gave two Class 8 students an opportunity to take charge as station house officers for one day. The initiative was organised with the aim of promoting the safety, respect and empowerment of women and girls. The students handled public grievance hearings, listened to complainants and directed the concerned police personnel to take necessary action for the disposal of complaints.
On Tuesday, 13 October, on the direction of Superintendent of Police Chiranjiv Nath Sinha, two students from Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools were made station house officers for one day at Hasayan and Sahpau police stations. The students were given an opportunity to understand the working of a police station and learn about leadership while carrying out responsibilities associated with the post.
At Hasayan police station, Vaishnavi, a Class 8 student of the Kasturba Gandhi Girls School located at Rati ka Nagla in the Hasayan police station area, took charge as the station house officer for one day. During her tenure, she heard the problems of complainants who came to the police station.
Vaishnavi directed the concerned officers to ensure that the complaints received were disposed of in a quality manner and within the prescribed time. She was also informed about the process followed during public hearings and the responsibilities linked to handling complaints at the police station.
At Sahpau police station, Gopi, a Class 8 student of Kasturba Gandhi Girls School, Sahpau, took charge as the station house officer for one day. She heard the complaints brought by the complainants and directed the concerned personnel to take necessary action on the applications submitted to the police station.
Where required, both parties were called in and an attempt was made to resolve the issues through counselling. The students therefore got an opportunity to observe the process of hearing complaints, giving directions on applications and seeking solutions through counselling, as part of the responsibilities handled at the two police stations.
During the programme, both students were given detailed information about the functioning of the police station, public grievance hearings and the process for disposing of complaints. They were also told about the responsibilities of police officers and employees working at the police station.
The students were informed about the efforts being made by the police to maintain law and order, prevent crimes related to women, and ensure the safety of women and girls. The programme was aimed at helping them understand the working of the police while also developing leadership ability, decision-making skills and self-confidence.
According to the information shared under the initiative, the objective is to help the students move forward and ensure their participation in every field in the future. By making them station house officers for one day, the police provided them with an opportunity to understand police responsibilities in real situations.
Students and female teachers present at the police station during the programme were honoured with chocolates and Frooti. The initiative generated enthusiasm among the students. They were encouraged to recognise their abilities, move ahead with confidence and take on leadership responsibilities.
As part of Mission Shakti, the students and women were also made aware of their rights, safety measures and assistance services. They were given information about the Women Power Line 1090, the police emergency service 112, the Child Helpline 1098, the Women Helpline 181 and the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
They were encouraged to contact the police without fear in case they faced any problem or harassment. The awareness effort focused on ensuring that women and girls know about the available helplines and can seek assistance when needed.
According to Hathras Police, such programmes are being organised under Mission Shakti Phase-6.0 to make girls aware of their rights and duties and to develop self-reliance, leadership ability and confidence in decision-making. Hathras Police reiterated its commitment to the safety, respect and empowerment of women and girls.
The police also said that awareness and participation-related programmes are being organised continuously under the Mission Shakti campaign so that girls can become aware, self-reliant and empowered.
