Suspected Ebola Case Reported in Rajasthan: 19-Year-Old Woman Quarantined in Jaipur

Rajasthan has reported its first suspected case of Ebola virus infection. A 19-year-old woman, who traveled from Uganda to Jaipur, exhibited symptoms resembling those of Ebola. She arrived in Jaipur on Friday morning via an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. During screening at the airport, she was identified as a suspected case and subsequently admitted to the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) hospital, where she has been placed in isolation.

According to RUHS hospital superintendent Dr. Anil Gupta, the woman has not been confirmed as an Ebola patient yet. Her symptoms are similar to those seen in Ebola cases, but further testing is required for confirmation. Dr. Mohanish Grover stated that one sample has been sent to Pune for testing, and another sample will be sent after 48 hours. Until the test results are available, the woman will remain quarantined. If the tests return positive, she will undergo treatment in isolation for 21 days.

Passengers who traveled with the woman on the flight have been advised to self-isolate at home as a precautionary measure. The medical team at Jaipur airport flagged her as a suspected case based on her medical history, which included complaints of abdominal pain and loss of appetite over the past month.

India has not reported any confirmed cases of Ebola virus so far. Globally, the virus has infected over 900 people, with 200 deaths reported in Congo in the last 20 days. The World Health Organization has declared Ebola a global health emergency due to its rapid spread.
