Monsoon Brings Relief from Heat Across 23 States, Heavy Rainfall in Rajasthan

The onset of monsoon has brought significant relief from heat across 23 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar. Rainfall, thunderstorms, and hailstorms have led to a drop in temperatures, with several regions recording below-average levels. In Rajasthan, heavy rainfall was reported in 10 districts. Udaipur's Gogunda area witnessed waterlogging outside a hospital, while roads in Jodhpur's Pipad city resembled ponds. In Pali's Ghanerao, streets turned into flowing streams.

Delhi experienced its coolest June 1 in three years, with Safdarjung recording a maximum temperature of 36.3°C, 3.7°C below normal. Similar weather patterns were observed in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, providing respite from the heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the southwest monsoon, which typically arrives in Kerala around June 1, is expected to reach the state within the next 2-3 days. Earlier predictions had estimated its arrival on May 26.

Meanwhile, states like Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana have also experienced significant weather changes. In Madhya Pradesh, hailstorms and rain have reduced temperatures by over 5°C, with alerts issued for heavy rainfall in several districts. Rajasthan has seen a similar drop in temperatures, with a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms in 19 districts. In Bihar, maximum temperatures in some districts are expected to reach 45°C, while Haryana has seen a decline in temperatures from 46°C to 38°C due to recent weather disturbances.

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for rainfall across all districts in Uttarakhand, with snowfall expected in higher-altitude regions above 4,000 meters.
