SIT interrogates Kanpur Municipal officials over 100 crore tender scam

A Special Investigation Team descended on the Kanpur Municipal Corporation headquarters Wednesday morning, triggering panic among officials as investigators launched a marathon five-hour interrogation into a massive 100 crore rupee tender scam. The SIT, led by ADCP Central Dr. Archana Singh and accompanied by forces from multiple police stations, arrived unexpectedly at 11:30 am, just a day after Tuesday's enforcement action at the same location.

Despite it being a holiday, the investigation team conducted face-to-face questioning of Chief Engineer SFA Zaidi, Executive Engineer RK Singh, and Environment Engineer Diwakar. Employees kept senior officials informed minute-by-minute from closed rooms as the interrogation unfolded. The SIT has seized files of all controversial firms under investigation, and sources within the corporation suggest major officials could soon face action following the cancellation of tenders worth 100 crore rupees and FIRs filed against six contractor-accused.

ADCP Singh sharply rebuked municipal officials, questioning how such a massive scam involving blacklisted firms could occur with standards thrown aside while authorities remained oblivious. The team grilled officers with pointed questions about the blacklisted companies and has demanded written responses to a list of queries handed over during the probe. When documents of a firm named "Kaila Devi" were scrutinized Wednesday, investigators uncovered large-scale irregularities.

Police Commissioner Raghuveera Lal revealed Tuesday that the main kingpin, Govind Sharma, remains at large while six contractor-accused have been arrested. Authorities believe Sharma's capture will expose several major secrets of the scam. Reports suggest these contractors operated with impunity under the protection of influential white-collar politicians whose names may soon emerge. Dr. Archana Singh confirmed all seized files are being thoroughly examined and warned that strict legal action awaits anyone found guilty, whether official or contractor.
