Shravasti road turns impassable as waterlogging traps commuters during bridge work

Heavy waterlogging has brought traffic to a near standstill on the Semgarha-Govindpur road in Shravasti district, forcing commuters to wade through knee-deep water as construction work on a new bridge continues in the area. The rising water level has sparked fears that the route could be completely submerged if rains persist through the day.

The waterlogging has particularly affected two-wheeler riders and schoolchildren trying to cross the stretch. Commuters have been seen struggling through the flooded road, which connects Semgarha intersection in the Ikauna block to Govindpur. The situation has worsened as bridge construction work proceeds alongside rising water accumulation, leaving no alternate dry passage for local residents.

Local villagers have raised urgent demands with authorities to address the crisis. They are calling for immediate measures including raising the road level by filling it with soil and installing drainage pipes to channel out the accumulated water. Residents warn that without swift intervention, the main road could become completely impassable by tomorrow if rainfall continues at the current pace.

The stretch between Semgarha Chowraha and Govindpur serves as a critical link for several villages in the Ikauna area. Daily commuters, including students heading to school and workers traveling to nearby towns, have been left with no choice but to risk crossing the waterlogged section. The flooding has disrupted normal movement and raised safety concerns, especially for vulnerable road users on two-wheelers who face the risk of skidding or getting stranded in deep water. Authorities have yet to respond to the villagers' demands for immediate relief measures.
