Shravasti hosts three-day sports fest honoring hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand

A three-day sports competition was inaugurated in Shravasti district from August 29 to 31, 2026, to mark National Sports Day and commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. Organized under the aegis of the District Sports Office and Sports Stadium Shravasti, the event featured hockey, athletics, football, and a Sunday cycling rally. The hockey competition saw participation from eight teams, with the inauguration ceremony led by the District Magistrate as chief guest and the representative of the former Member of Parliament and current District Panchayat President as special guest.

In the hockey tournament, Alakshendr Inter College, Bhinga, Shravasti emerged as champions with an outstanding performance, while the Sports Stadium Shravasti team finished as runners-up. Players participated enthusiastically across all events, showcasing their sporting spirit and competitive energy throughout the competition.

During the event, the District Magistrate briefed the participating athletes about the life, sporting achievements, and national contributions of the great hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. She encouraged the young sportspersons, emphasizing that sports play a vital role in developing discipline, self-confidence, and team spirit among youth. She urged all players to work consistently hard, advance in the field of sports, and wished them success in their future endeavors.
