Shravasti court convicts two men in 43-year-old assault case from 1983

A court in Shravasti has delivered its verdict in a 43-year-old assault and verbal abuse case registered in 1983, sentencing two accused persons to imprisonment till the rising of the court along with a fine of 600 rupees each.

The case was registered at Sirsia police station in 1983 on charges of assault and verbal abuse. According to police, action was taken against the accused Badallu Singh and Dhodhe, residents of Nikhiha under Sirsia police station jurisdiction, under sections 323 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code.

The allegations in the case stated that both the accused had assaulted the complainant and hurled abuses at him. After approximately 43 years, the court has now pronounced its judgment in this matter.

According to a press release issued by the police, effective advocacy was carried out in the case under the Operation Conviction campaign. The police department has been pursuing old pending cases as part of this special drive to secure convictions in long-standing matters.

Following the proceedings, the honourable court of JM Shravasti, presided over by Dilip Kumar Sahni, convicted both the accused and sentenced them to imprisonment till the rising of the court on September 10, 2026. Additionally, a financial penalty of 600 rupees each was imposed on both the convicted persons.

The case has drawn attention on social media at a time when the 1980s era has been trending online, with people reminiscing about old films, songs and memories from that decade. Amidst this trend, this decades-old case from Shravasti has also come into the spotlight, sparking discussions about the judicial process.

The matter was not new but dates back nearly 43 years to when the complaint was first lodged. The residents of Nikhiha village under Sirsia police station area were named in the first information report for allegedly committing assault and using abusive language against the complainant.
