Shravasti administration assures Rapti River remains below danger level after Nepal cloudburst

The district administration of Shravasti has issued a reassuring advisory to residents, confirming that the Rapti River water level remains well below the danger mark despite a cloudburst and flash flood in Nepal. Officials stated that there is no possibility of any significant rise in the river's water level due to the incident across the border.

According to the latest update released on August 26, 2026 at 8:00 PM, the water level at Rapti Barrage stands at 127.00 meters, which is 0.70 meters below the danger threshold. The upstream gauge recorded 127.700 meters while the downstream gauge showed 127.000 meters. The downstream discharge is measured at 3945 cusecs, and the trend remains steady with no rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours. The silt content was measured at 1380 parts per million.

The Rapti Link Channel is discharging water at 410 cusecs, while the R.M.C. shows a discharge rate of 3180 cusecs. At West Rapti Kusum, the water level was recorded at 2.49 meters with a rising trend and zero rainfall in 24 hours. Meanwhile, West Rapti Sonari registered a steady water level of 2.90 meters.

The District Disaster Management Authority is maintaining continuous surveillance on the Rapti River water levels to ensure public safety. Officials have assured that in case of any adverse situation developing, the district administration will immediately issue an alert to the residents.

The timely communication aims to prevent panic among local residents and keep them informed about the actual ground situation. Authorities emphasized that despite the upstream weather event in Nepal, the river system in Shravasti district remains under control with all parameters within safe limits.
