Road diversion on Prayagraj bridge doubles commuter costs, delays journeys

A route diversion imposed on the Fafaramau Ganga Bridge in Prayagraj to ease congestion has become a growing source of trouble for both the transport corporation and passengers traveling between Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. The diversion, which was put in place in view of the traffic jam problem on the Fafaramau Ganga Bridge, applies to large and heavy vehicles and has forced Roadways buses operating between the two cities to take a longer detour via Soranv, Sahson and Jhunsi.

The extended route has had a direct impact on passengers' pockets. Earlier, the fare for a Roadways bus from Pratapgarh to Prayagraj was 93 rupees, but after the diversion the fare has increased to 120 rupees due to the additional distance covered. This means passengers now have to spend an extra 27 rupees for a one-way journey alone.

Apart from the fare hike, travel time has also increased significantly. Passengers say that because of the diversion, reaching Prayagraj now takes considerably longer than it used to. This has particularly affected daily commuters who travel to and from Prayagraj regularly, and they are facing the maximum inconvenience.

Travelers have expressed concern that if the diversion continues for an extended period, the additional burden of both higher fares and increased travel time will weigh heavily on people. For the transport corporation, operating buses on the longer route is also proving to be an increasing challenge. The diversion, originally meant to address congestion on the bridge, has thus ended up creating fresh difficulties for the roadways system and the traveling public alike, with no immediate relief in sight for regular passengers on this busy corridor.
