Ranchi Police Warn Traders About Rising Extortion Call Threats

Ranchi police Police have issued an advisory to traders in the city, urging them to remain vigilant against a surge in extortion calls. The warning comes after several traders, including a well-known jeweller and a restaurant owner, reported receiving threatening calls from individuals claiming to be gangsters or members of extremist groups.

According to the police, these extortion attempts are often made via WhatsApp calls and messages, with callers using international country codes such as +1, +44, +82, and +264. Traders under police jurisdictions like Ratu and Nagri have been particularly targeted in recent incidents. The advisory strongly recommends treating such calls as suspicious and refraining from answering them. Police have also advised blocking unknown numbers with foreign country codes immediately.

The issue has raised significant concern among the business community. Members of the Federation of Jharkhand Chambers of Commerce and Industries recently met Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra, urging swift action to address the growing menace. The delegation highlighted the fear and disruption these threats are causing among traders, who are already grappling with other business challenges.

To combat the problem, Ranchi Police have provided clear instructions for reporting suspicious calls and messages. Traders and residents are encouraged to inform authorities by dialing 1930 or registering complaints through the Sanchar Saathi platform. The police assured that swift action would be taken to investigate and neutralize such threats.

This advisory serves as a reminder for the public to stay alert and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure safety and security in the city. Ranchi Police continue to monitor the situation closely and have pledged to take firm steps to protect the business community from criminal activities.
