Raksha Bandhan should extend beyond families to embrace all society, says expert

Raksha Bandhan, the traditional Indian festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, should extend beyond family ties to encompass the entire society, said Dr. T.S. Pal, Manager of the Bharatiya Manav Kalyan Samiti. Speaking ahead of the festival, he emphasized that this beautiful cultural tradition represents not just a ritual but a commitment to service, cooperation, and goodwill throughout society.

Dr. Pal explained that Raksha Bandhan binds siblings in threads of love, trust, and responsibility. While sisters tie rakhi on their brothers' wrists, brothers pledge to protect and support their sisters' honor, happiness, and security. However, he stressed the need to carry this message beyond immediate family circles and make it a social commitment.

"We must resolve to treat every daughter of society with the same respect as our own sisters," Dr. Pal said. He called upon people to help families in need and strengthen mutual brotherhood and human sensitivity in society. He reminded that relationships are not built merely by birth but are strengthened through fulfilling responsibilities.

Drawing on the ancient Indian philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", the world is one family, Dr. Pal urged people to ensure their sense of brotherhood reaches every member of society, not remaining confined to their own families alone. He encouraged citizens to connect the sacred thread of rakhi with commitments toward social service and humanity.

On the occasion, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister for Secondary Education with Independent Charge, Smt. Gulab Devi, visited Dr. T.S. Pal's residence and tied rakhi to him. Additionally, Radhika, Divisha, and Prisha tied rakhis to their brothers Rahul, Ansh, Pryansh, and Aahan, celebrating the festival with traditional fervor.
