Power department junior engineer found dead in Pratapgarh, suicide suspected

A junior engineer with the electricity department allegedly died by suicide in Pratapgarh's Udaypur police station area. Vivek Yadav, 38, was found hanging in his rented room on Tuesday.

Vivek Yadav, son of Rajan Prasad Yadav, was posted at Udaypur Power House and had taken charge as junior engineer approximately two months ago. He lived with his wife Suman Yadav, 35, and their three children in a rented house in Mangapur Bazar. His wife and children had gone to her parental home for Rakshabandhan, after which Vivek was staying alone in the room.

Around 2 pm on Tuesday, colleagues called Vivek several times but received no response. They then went to his rented room and found his body hanging. The employees immediately informed the police.

Police arrived at the scene, brought down the body and began an investigation. The forensic team also collected evidence from the spot. According to departmental employees, Vivek would sometimes have disagreements during phone conversations with someone regarding family matters. Neighbours said he was arguing with someone on the phone around 10 pm on Monday night. After around 10:30 pm, his phone was not reachable.

However, the actual reasons for the suicide have not yet been confirmed. The deceased's younger brother Vinay said there was no dispute in the family. Vivek was recruited as SSO in the electricity department in 2019 and had been posted at Udaypur Power House for approximately seven years before taking charge as junior engineer. His son Naitik, 15, studies while living in Varanasi, while his daughters Niharika, 12, and Navya, 8, study at Siddh Ashram Public School in Sangipur.

Udaypur police station in-charge Deep Narayan said the deceased's family members are on their way. The body will be sent for post-mortem after they arrive. Police are investigating the case and attempting to determine the reasons for suicide by questioning colleagues and others.
