Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 23rd instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme on June 20, transferring Rs 18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore farmers across India. The disbursement will be conducted during his visit to Tarakeswar in Hooghly district, West Bengal.
This latest instalment will bring the total amount disbursed under the PM-Kisan scheme, launched in 2019, to over Rs 4.46 lakh crore. In West Bengal alone, more than 45.35 lakh farmers will receive approximately Rs 907 crore, pushing cumulative payments in the state under the scheme to over Rs 15,055 crore.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that the funds will be credited through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, aimed at bolstering the income security of small and marginal farmers.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal. These initiatives, with a combined budget of Rs 12,200 crore, aim to provide crop insurance coverage to nearly 1.10 crore farmers across 30 lakh hectares by 2026-27, safeguarding crops valued at approximately Rs 28,140 crore.
