Patti residents call for collective responsibility in protecting abandoned cattle

Many people identify themselves as Hindus and revere cows, they said, but fail to show genuine compassion when it matters. Owners often abandon cows on the streets once they stop giving milk, leaving the animals to wander hungry and thirsty without shelter. The residents urged every sensitive person to reflect on this troubling reality and encouraged those skeptical of the situation to visit local cow shelters to see the conditions firsthand.

Evidence from the shelters shows that people from various sections of society are contributing to the cause, residents noted. They stressed that instead of blaming the government alone, financially capable members of society must step forward to help arrange fodder, water, and medical treatment for abandoned cattle. Religious reverence, they said, should not remain confined to speeches and slogans but must translate into tangible responsibility and compassion toward animals.

The appeal comes at a time when stray cattle have become a common sight on streets across many towns in Uttar Pradesh. Residents emphasized that cows hold the status of mother in Hindu faith, and protecting them is a shared duty.
