A 19-year-old nursing student in Varanasi died after consuming abortion pills allegedly forced upon her by her boyfriend, Mohammad Sameer. The student, who was three months pregnant, was found unconscious and bleeding on the hostel staircase at 11:30 AM on Wednesday. An electrician discovered her and raised an alarm, following which she was taken to a nearby nursing home, where doctors declared her dead.
Police investigations revealed that the student and Sameer, a third-year nursing student from the same college, had been in a relationship for two years. Sameer confessed during interrogation that they had planned the abortion after consulting YouTube videos. He admitted to forcing her to take the pills despite her reluctance. The student experienced severe pain, vomiting, and heavy bleeding after consuming the medication. She reportedly asked to be taken to the hospital but collapsed on the staircase before help could arrive.
Sameer fled the scene and returned to his home in Jaunpur but was later arrested by the police. Authorities recovered painkillers and other medications from the victim's belongings. Sameer also revealed that the student had undergone an abortion seven months earlier. Police have retrieved incriminating evidence, including videos, photos, and chat records, from Sameer’s phone.
The victim’s father, a police constable posted in Chandauli, resides with his family in Varanasi. The student was in her second year of GNM studies. A post-mortem examination was conducted by a panel of two doctors, and its proceedings were videographed. Further investigations are ongoing.
