District Collector Himanshu Shukla flagged off a breast cancer awareness rally organised by the Indian Red Cross Society in Nellore on Saturday.

The rally proceeded from the Mahatma Gandhi statue to the Red Cross office.

Addressing the gathering, Shukla called for widespread awareness among women about breast cancer and urged them to recognise early symptoms.

He also asked women to undergo medical screenings without delay.

Shukla said a family remains strong only when its women are healthy.

Early detection improves treatment outcomes

The Collector stressed that everyone should prioritise women’s health.

“Detecting breast cancer at an early stage leads to better treatment outcomes and increases the chances of recovery,” he said.

He specifically said that women over the age of 40 must undergo screening tests.

The appeal focused on timely screening and medical consultation as key steps when women notice possible warning signs.

“Women should not hesitate to share their health concerns with others,” Shukla said.

He advised women not to ignore lumps in the breast, unusual changes or any other suspicious symptoms.

“If they notice lumps in the breast, unusual changes, or any other suspicious symptoms, they should not ignore them but consult a doctor immediately,” the Collector said.

Appeal against screening delays

Shukla said modern technology and improved treatment methods were currently available in the medical field.

He also noted that high-standard medical services were accessible at cancer hospitals in the district.

The Collector urged women not to avoid medical screenings out of fear.

The awareness rally therefore combined a public campaign with an appeal for women to identify symptoms early, share their health concerns and seek medical advice promptly.
