Mother and five-month-old daughter found dead in pond in Shravasti district

A 31-year-old woman and her five-month-old daughter were found dead in a pond under suspicious circumstances in Shravasti district on Monday afternoon, sending shockwaves through their village. Sabina and her infant daughter Safia, residents of Imliya Karanpur village under the Hardatt Nagar Girant police jurisdiction, had been missing since approximately 2 am on Sunday night when the mother left home with the child.

Family members had been searching for the pair throughout the night and into Monday morning. The bodies were discovered floating in a pond near the village around 2 pm on Monday. Upon receiving information about the discovery, villagers and relatives gathered at the scene and pulled the bodies out of the water before taking them home.

Station House Officer Mahimanath Upadhyay reached the spot with his team and launched an investigation into the deaths. Circle Officer Bharat Paswan also visited the site to inspect the scene and later went to the family's residence to conduct inquiries. He has issued necessary instructions to the police for further action in the case.

Authorities are treating the deaths as suspicious given the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and discovery of the bodies. However, the family is currently refusing to allow a post-mortem examination, while police officials are making efforts to convince them of its necessity. The post-mortem is crucial to determine the exact cause of death and whether foul play was involved.

The incident has created panic in the village, with residents shocked by the tragic deaths. Police continue their investigation to establish what led to the mother leaving home in the early hours with her infant and the events that resulted in both being found dead in the pond.
