Modi: AI Must Be 'All Inclusive' for India's Progress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasized the need for technology to be inclusive, stating that Artificial Intelligence (AI) for India stands for "All Inclusive." Speaking at Vivatech 2026, a prominent global technology summit in Europe, he underlined that progress through technology is possible only when it is accessible to everyone.

His comments come at a time when the United States has imposed restrictions on the use of Anthropic's latest AI models for foreign nationals, raising questions about equitable access to advanced technologies. Against this backdrop, Mr. Modi highlighted India's achievements in leveraging technology for societal transformation.

"Technology can lead to progress only when it is democratised," the Prime Minister said. He pointed out that India now accounts for half of the world's digital transactions, showcasing the country's growing dominance in the tech space. Over the past decade, he added, India has undergone significant changes driven by technological innovation.

Citing examples, Mr. Modi mentioned India's creation of the world's largest digital identity system, Aadhaar, and its robust digital payments platforms like UPI. He also highlighted the use of technology in areas such as financial inclusion, education, and telemedicine, which have brought tangible benefits to millions.

India's presence at Vivatech 2026 is particularly noteworthy, with the country hosting the largest national pavilion at the summit. This, Mr. Modi said, symbolizes the immense potential for collaboration between Indian and European innovation ecosystems.

The Prime Minister's remarks reflect India's vision of using technology as a tool for inclusive development, positioning the country as a global leader in digital transformation.
