Man duped of 1.44 lakh by classmate promising fake FCI job in Uttar Pradesh

A job aspirant from Sultanpur has accused a Pratapgarh resident of cheating him out of 1.44 lakh rupees by promising him a government position at the Food Corporation of India. The victim, Uday Prakash Saroj, has lodged a complaint at Kandhai police station alleging fraud, caste-based abuse, and threats to his life. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.

According to the complaint, Saroj was a classmate of the accused, Awdhesh Verma, who resides in Narayanpur. Exploiting their old acquaintance and trust, Verma allegedly assured Saroj in 2021 that he could secure him an FCI job through a relative who held an influential position in the organization. At that time, Saroj was preparing for teacher recruitment examinations and hoping for a stable government position.

Based on this promise, Saroj transferred one lakh rupees to Verma's bank account in installments and also handed over 44,000 rupees in cash. However, despite repeated assurances from the accused over an extended period, no appointment materialized. Whenever Saroj sought updates, Verma allegedly kept stalling and evading his questions.

After a considerable wait with no job offer in sight, Saroj realized he had been duped and demanded his money back. Instead of returning the amount, Verma allegedly hurled caste-based slurs at him and threatened to kill him if he came to his house. The complainant has now approached the police seeking registration of a case against Verma and recovery of his money.

Station Officer Aditya Kumar Singh of Kandhai police station confirmed that an inquiry is underway based on the complaint. He stated that appropriate action would be taken as per procedure once the investigation is complete. The case highlights how fraudsters continue to exploit job seekers by falsely promising government positions.
