Man declared dead in records to steal 25 lakh rupee property in Pratapgarh

A major land fraud case has emerged from Raniganj tehsil in Pratapgarh district, where a man was allegedly declared dead in government records to fraudulently transfer and sell his property worth approximately 25 lakh rupees. The victim, Siyaram, has filed a complaint with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate demanding action, and an investigation has been ordered.

According to Siyaram, a resident of Pure Goshai village in Fatanpur police station area, he had purchased one biswa of land near Laxipur market along the roadside through a sale deed in 2005. The current market value of this land is estimated at around 25 lakh rupees by local residents. When Siyaram recently visited the tehsil office to obtain a certified khatauni (land record), he was shocked to discover that other people's names were registered on his plot number.

The complaint alleges that two women living near Laxipur market fraudulently inherited the land in 2022 by claiming their father's name was Shriram alias Siyaram. After obtaining inheritance rights, they completed the mutation process and subsequently executed a sale deed transferring the property to another person. The entire transaction was reportedly carried out by falsely showing Siyaram as deceased in official records.

Taking the complaint seriously, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Anurag Singh has assigned the investigation to the tehsildar. The SDM stated that once facts are established during the probe, a case will be registered against the guilty parties and action will be taken according to rules. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in land record systems and raises concerns about document verification processes in property transactions. Authorities are now scrutinizing how such fraudulent entries were made in government records without proper verification of the person's living status.
