Lawyers lock down Pratapgarh tehsil over youth's suspicious death in police custody

Lawyers in Patti tehsil of Pratapgarh district locked down the local tehsil office and staged loud protests against the police administration over the death of a youth under suspicious circumstances inside the Patti police station premises.

The lawyers carried out the protest action on Tuesday, bolting shut the tehsil complex and raising slogans against the police administration. Work at the tehsil office and the registry office remained affected throughout the demonstration. The protesting lawyers expressed deep anger over the incident, stating that the death of the youth inside the police station is a serious matter and that effective action must be taken against those responsible for the incident.

The agitated lawyers registered their protest by chanting slogans against the police administration. It was reported that for the first time, a situation arose where the main gate of the police station itself was locked from the police side. Following this development, the lawyers proceeded to lock down the tehsil premises as well. The incident led to considerable commotion in the tehsil area for a long duration.

It is notable that following the death of youth Arjun under suspicious circumstances at Patti police station, the police department has already suspended Patti Station House Officer Anand Pal Singh and investigating officer Omkar Singh. Orders for an inquiry into the matter have also been issued. The lawyers are demanding an impartial investigation into the incident and action against those found guilty in the case. They insist that accountability must be fixed and appropriate punishment meted out to the officers responsible for the youth's death in custody.
