Man arrested for assault, illegal gunfire and death threats in Kanpur Dehat

Police in Kanpur Dehat have arrested a man accused of assaulting a victim with the butt of an illegal firearm and firing shots in the air while issuing death threats. The accused, identified as 39-year-old Sanjay Kumar Yadav, was apprehended by the Mangalpur police station team on Baliyapur road. Officers recovered an illegal 315 bore country-made pistol, one live cartridge, and a Vivo smartphone from his possession.

The incident unfolded on the night of August 30, 2026, when Yadav allegedly called the complainant around 10:30 PM, hurling abuses and threatening to kill him over the phone. When the victim lodged a complaint on the emergency helpline Dial UP-112, the enraged accused tracked him down near the Inter College and launched a violent attack. Yadav beat the victim with the butt of his pistol and fired a shot into the air before fleeing the scene.

Based on the written complaint filed at Mangalpur police station on August 31, 2026, authorities registered case number 262/2026 and launched a manhunt for the accused. The police team, led by Sub-Inspector Sunil Sisodia along with Head Constables Pradeep Kumar and Brajraj Singh and Constable Avinash Sharma, acted swiftly to track down and apprehend Yadav from his village Baliyapur in Kanpur Dehat district.

Following the recovery of the illegal weapon and ammunition, police have added Section 3/25 of the Arms Act to the case against the accused. Sanjay Kumar Yadav, son of Raghuvir and a resident of Baliyapur village, is being produced before the honorable court for legal proceedings. The incident highlights the persistent challenge of illegal firearms in circulation and the threat they pose to public safety in the region.
