Kanpur Dehat police bust interstate theft gang, arrest six including goldsmith

A joint police team from Rura police station, SOG and Surveillance unit in Kanpur Dehat has busted an interstate theft gang and arrested six accused, including a goldsmith who purchased stolen jewellery. The arrests were made as part of a special drive to curb a spate of thefts in the district.

Police received information from an informer that a gang responsible for thefts in village Kathara under Rura police station and surrounding areas was moving around in a white Scorpio vehicle planning another crime. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police team laid a cordon on the Injuarampur-Gaindamau road and nabbed five accused travelling in the Scorpio. Based on their identification, police then arrested a goldsmith from Bidhuna in the early hours of the morning who was purchasing the stolen ornaments.

During interrogation, it emerged that the gang used to roam around Kanpur Dehat, Auraiya and nearby districts, conducting reconnaissance of locked houses and breaking open locks to commit thefts. Main accused Naushad had recently purchased the Scorpio with stolen money and the gang used to fix fake number plates on it while committing crimes. The stolen jewellery was sold to Abhayraj alias Aman Soni, a goldsmith from Auraiya.

The arrested accused are Naushad Ali alias Chhote Ali, aged 24 years, resident of Devranv, Bidhuna police station, Auraiya; Arman alias Adnan, aged 30 years, resident of Pakka Bagh, Ikdil police station, Etawah; Anuj Yadav, aged 27 years, resident of Gaheser, Dibiyapur police station, Auraiya; Azad alias Rajol, aged 19 years, resident of Devranv, Turtle police station, Auraiya; Aman Ali, aged 19 years, resident of Dalel Nagar, Ajitmal police station, Auraiya; and Abhayraj alias Aman Soni, goldsmith, aged 29 years, resident of Kachhpura/Bhikhra, Bidhuna police station, Auraiya.

Police recovered cash amounting to 97,000 rupees, gold and silver ornaments including anklets, todiyas, nosepins, silver coins, kadas and parts of a kamarpeeti, two illegal country-made pistols of 315 bore, four live cartridges and one fired cartridge, the Scorpio car with fake number plate which has been seized, six Android and keypad mobile phones, and two burglar tools used for breaking locks.

The recovery from the arrested accused has led to the solving of more than half a dozen theft cases in Rura, Akbarpur, Musanagar, Bhognipur, Mangalpur and Baraur areas. Police have registered cases against the accused under relevant sections and produced them in court, from where they have been sent to jail.

The successful operation was conducted by Station House Officer Sudhir Bhardwaj of Rura police station, Sub-Inspectors Ramvir Singh, Shiv Bahadur Singh and Rajaram, along with the joint SOG and Surveillance team.
