Various left-wing mass organisations staged a protest in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, over allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The organisations alleged that the votes of around 13 crore 80 lakh voters across the country had been deleted and that this had benefited the Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP.
The protesters first took out an anger rally from the War Martyrs Memorial to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Bilaspur. After reaching the office, they held a strong demonstration outside the premises and burnt an effigy of the CEC.
During the protest, there was an argument between the demonstrators and police personnel. The police tried to stop the protesters from burning the effigy. The situation became calmer after some time, following which the protesters submitted a memorandum to the President through Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar.
The left-wing leaders said Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had deleted the votes of 13 crore 80 lakh voters in the country and benefited the BJP. They also alleged that the BJP had been made to win in several states through the Election Commission.
According to the leaders, such actions pose a threat to the country’s democracy. They further alleged that the central NDA government was trying to protect CEC Gyaneshwar Kumar.
The leaders said this attempt to protect the CEC would not be tolerated under any circumstances. They also alleged that organisations opposing the issue were facing different kinds of atrocities, while efforts were being made to shield the CEC.
