A joint river expedition involving the District Collector, Kuttiadi MLA Parakkal Abdulla, grama panchayat presidents and tourism officials will be organised to examine the tourism potential of the Kuttiadi region.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Parakkal Abdulla, where a proposal to develop a river tourism circuit was discussed. The proposed circuit would connect local bodies through which the Kuttiadi river flows and promote river and hill tourism in the Kuttiadi Assembly constituency.

Proposal covers rivers, hills and farms

The MLA submitted a comprehensive report on the tourism potential of rivers, ponds, paddy fields and hills in the constituency to District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty. The report was submitted with the aim of promoting the region’s overall development.

The Tourism department and the Kozhikode district administration are considering the river tourism circuit proposal. The planned expedition is intended to help officials and local representatives explore the region’s tourism potential.

The proposed projects cover several locations and different forms of tourism. They include a heritage walking trail and a happiness park in Kuttiadi. Cherandathur Chira has been identified for birdwatching, farm tourism and a walkway.

Kayaking and ecotourism have been proposed on the Chovva river. A tourism project is also proposed at Thuruthi, Perinchery Kadavu, along with a bamboo park in Thiruvallur.

Feasibility assessment planned

A team of experts from the Tourism department is expected to visit the proposed locations soon to assess their feasibility. A team led by the District Collector will subsequently visit the shortlisted sites.

The meeting also decided to take urgent steps to improve facilities at Payamkuttimala. It further decided to widen the road leading to the hill. The decisions place the proposed tourism circuit alongside measures to improve access and facilities at one of the constituency’s hill destinations.
