Kanpur Dehat ranks 43rd in state flagship programmes, draws DM's sharp criticism

District Magistrate Kapil Singh chaired a comprehensive review meeting at Maa Mukteshwari Devi auditorium in Kanpur Dehat to assess development schemes, public welfare programmes and construction projects. The review was conducted based on the 'Darpan' district monitoring booklet for July 2026. The district's performance drew sharp criticism from the DM, as it ranked 43rd in flagship programmes and 65th in overall development and revenue across the state. Singh expressed dissatisfaction with these rankings and issued strict instructions to officials to improve the district's position.

Out of 85 flagship items reviewed, 59 were categorised as 'A' grade, 2 as 'B', 2 as 'C', and 4 fell into the 'D' category. The departments lagging in 'D' grade included DAY-NRLM (RF/CIF), Family ID, 15th Finance Commission (Gram Panchayat), and the Chief Minister's Collective Marriage Scheme. The District Magistrate warned that officials must demonstrate quality improvements on the ground rather than merely producing paper statistics. He made it clear that negligent officers who fail to regularly monitor the CM Dashboard will be held accountable.

Singh issued specific directives for several schemes. He expressed strong displeasure over the delayed publicity of a new Aadhaar centre in Akbarpur and ordered widespread promotion of such centres down to the gram panchayat level. For stray cattle protection, he instructed campaigns every 2-3 days in hotspot areas with 100 percent ear tagging. Officials were directed to launch special drives in rural areas to enroll left-out families under the Family ID scheme and resolve pending cases within set deadlines. For the PM Surya Ghar scheme, he emphasised awareness camps and public outreach to include maximum eligible families.

Considering the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival, administrative orders were issued to ensure timely payment of honorarium to all employees. The meeting was attended by Chief Development Officer Vidhan Jaiswal, ADM Administration Amit Kumar, ADM Finance and Revenue Dushyant Kumar Maurya, all Block Development Officers, and district-level officials.
