The protest by farmers from Kanawani village completed 50 days at the protest site in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, on October 2, 2026. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the farmers observed silence at the site and reiterated their commitment to continuing their peaceful movement.
The farmers said that even after 50 days, the administration and the authority had not taken the expected action on their demands. Through their silent protest, they said they were sending a message about what they described as the administration’s continued inaction.
The farmers said, “न कुछ दिखाई दे रहा है, न सुनाई दे रहा है, न प्रशासन कुछ बोल रहा है”: nothing is visible, nothing is being heard, and the administration is not saying anything. They said the administration could neither hear the voice of the Kanawani farmers nor see their difficulties, and was also not speaking on the matter.
According to the farmers, they have been holding the protest peacefully for a long time, but their problems are still not being given serious attention. They said the completion of 50 days had further strengthened their resolve to continue the movement until their names were restored in the relevant records.
The farmers have alleged that officials are not following the orders of the Hon’ble court. They further alleged that action is being taken in a manner contrary to the court’s directions.
According to the farmers, the court had fixed a time limit within which either the farmers were to be paid for their land or the land was to be returned to them. They said that even after the time limit had passed, their names had not been restored in the revenue records.
At the same time, the farmers alleged that the authority was moving ahead with the process of preparing an award for compensation. They said this action was being continued despite the court’s directions and despite the failure to restore their names in the revenue records.
The farmers said they had now reached a point where “enough is enough”. They said the authority would have to take their demands and the court orders seriously. They warned that if the alleged disregard for their demands continued, the movement would be expanded further.
The farmers also said they would not step back from waging a decisive battle for their rights. They maintained that their agitation would continue until the names of the farmers were restored in the khasra-khatauni records and other revenue records.
The farmers further informed that the Hon’ble High Court had already issued contempt notices against some officials in the matter. According to them, contempt-related notices had been issued by the court to Executive Officer, Development Authority Nandkishore Kalal, ADM Land Acquisition Avnish Kumar Singh, and Dr. Balkar Singh of Lucknow.
Despite the notices, the farmers alleged that the authority was continuing with its action and was engaged in the process of preparing the award. They said this showed that their concerns and the court’s directions were still not being treated with the seriousness they required.
Farmer Parveen Nagar said the farmers of Kanawani were now completely united and organised. He said they were receiving continuous support from farmers in nearby villages as well.
Parveen Nagar said the farmers would neither be afraid nor bow down, and would not retreat under any circumstances. He reiterated that the movement would continue until the names of the farmers were restored in the khasra-khatauni and revenue records.
He also said that ignoring the farmers could prove costly for the authority. He added that the movement would be expanded further in the coming days.
Kailash Nagar, Sukhbir Nagar, Mahendra Nagar, Shrichand Nagar, Chatar Singh Nagar, Jaipal Nagar, Antaraj Kasana, Vijay Nagar, Satish Nagar and Ashok Kasana were among the farmers present at the protest site.
