Independence Day 2026 Live: PM Modi Addresses Nation From Red Fort, Says 'Achieved New Goals in Saptadhara'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the historic Red Fort in Delhi on Friday, marking India's 80th Independence Day. This was the 13th consecutive time PM Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the iconic Mughal-era fortress.

Saptadhara: Seven Streams of Progress

In his address, PM Modi highlighted that India has achieved new milestones under the 'Saptadhara' framework — seven streams of national development that cover manufacturing, infrastructure, technology, agriculture, defence, social welfare, and governance reforms. He said these seven pillars have collectively transformed India's global standing over the past decade.

Free Trade Agreements With 40 Countries

The Prime Minister announced that India has signed Free Trade Agreements with 40 countries, significantly expanding the nation's economic footprint and opening new markets for Indian goods and services. This marks a major leap in India's trade diplomacy and economic integration with global markets.

Guard of Honour and 21-Gun Salute

Before the flag hoisting ceremony, the Prime Minister received a Guard of Honour from a joint contingent of the three armed forces and Delhi Police. After the tricolor was unfurled, a 21-gun salute was fired using the indigenous 105mm Light Field Gun, underlining India's commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Viksit Bharat 2047: The Vision for a Developed India

PM Modi reiterated his government's resolve to build a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) by 2047, when the nation will complete 100 years of independence. He emphasised the role of youth in realising this vision, calling them the driving force behind India's transformation.

Historic Milestone: 79 Years of Freedom

India has completed 79 years since independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. The celebrations at Red Fort remain the centrepiece of the nation's Independence Day observances, with thousands of citizens, school children, and dignitaries attending the ceremony every year. This year's celebrations featured a spectacular human formation spelling 'Vande Mataram' on the parade ground, alongside displays showcasing India's achievements in space, nuclear energy, and infrastructure development.
