Health Minister Nadda Reviews Dengue Preparedness Ahead of Monsoon

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda convened a high-level meeting on Thursday to assess the country’s preparedness for managing dengue and malaria as the monsoon season approaches. The review focused on strengthening surveillance, hospital readiness, and vector control measures to tackle these mosquito-borne diseases effectively.

During the meeting, Nadda reviewed the current disease situation across India and emphasized the need for heightened vigilance to prevent and control outbreaks. He highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the Central government, states, Union territories, local administrations, and healthcare institutions to minimize the disease burden and ensure prompt responses to emerging public health challenges.

The health minister directed states to bolster their surveillance systems to enable early detection of cases and outbreaks. He stressed the importance of timely reporting, active monitoring, and rapid response mechanisms to curb the spread of infections.

Hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide were instructed to remain fully prepared by ensuring the availability of essential resources, including medicines, diagnostic facilities, blood components, hospital beds, and trained healthcare personnel. Nadda underscored the need for uninterrupted patient care services and readiness to handle any surge in caseloads.

To combat mosquito-borne diseases, Nadda called for intensified vector control activities such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites, source reduction, fogging, and other public health interventions in high-risk areas. He urged states and local authorities to coordinate with community stakeholders to sustain preventive measures.

The minister also emphasized the importance of public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on preventive measures. He advocated for widespread Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) initiatives to promote cleanliness, prevent water stagnation, encourage personal protective measures, and ensure timely medical attention for symptoms. Additionally, he called for the active involvement of resident welfare associations, Panchayati Raj institutions, and community organizations in maintaining mosquito-free surroundings.

“Awareness, early diagnosis, timely treatment, and community participation remain the key pillars in the fight against dengue and malaria,” Nadda stated.
