Gwalior/Dabra: The administration has intensified surveillance in the Billaua area amid complaints of illegal mining and transportation of black gravel. During a surprise random checking operation conducted on Monday night, 12 dumpers carrying gravel were seized for allegedly violating rules and for not having the required documents related to gravel transportation.

The checking was carried out by Dabra Sub-Divisional Magistrate Navkiran Kaur along with a team from the Revenue and Mining departments. The action came after complaints of illegal transportation continued to surface despite the check posts created and regular monitoring following directions from the High Court.

During the night operation, the team stopped gravel-filled dumpers and checked their documents. In some vehicles, royalty documents related to the transportation of gravel were not found. Some other dumpers were found carrying gravel beyond their prescribed capacity.

The administration seized all 12 vehicles and had them parked at the Billaua police station premises. Action against the concerned vehicles is being taken under the Mining Act.

During the operation, SDM Navkiran Kaur also inspected the Billaua check post. She examined the register in which vehicle entries are recorded and sought details from the staff posted there about the process being followed to check vehicles.

The SDM directed the staff to ensure that every vehicle is checked according to the rules and that its entry is properly recorded. She also made it clear that action would be taken against the concerned employee if negligence was found at any level.

The administration’s monitoring in the Billaua area has been strengthened after the High Court took cognizance of the issue of black gravel mining and transportation. Check posts have been set up in the area to stop illegal transportation, and police personnel have also been deployed.

Along with the deployment of police personnel and the functioning of check posts, officials from the Revenue and Mining departments have been conducting random checks on a regular basis. The latest operation was carried out after complaints continued despite these monitoring arrangements.

Dabra SDM Navkiran Kaur said that during random checking in the Billaua area, 12 vehicles were found without the required documents related to gravel transportation. She said all the vehicles had been seized and kept at the Billaua police station premises.

She said action was being taken against the vehicles under the Mining Act. The SDM also said that random checking against illegal mining and transportation would continue in the area.
