Ghaziabad farmers enter eighth day of protest, demand fair land compensation and rights restoration

Farmers in Kanavni, Ghaziabad, continued their sit-in protest for the eighth consecutive day today, demanding fair compensation for their land and restoration of their rights. The protesting farmers remain firm at the demonstration site, warning that they will not back down from their 22-year-long struggle for justice. They allege that instead of addressing their demands, authorities are attempting to suppress their movement through pressure tactics and punitive action.

The farmers have accused the Ghaziabad Development Authority of escalating tensions by demolishing the boundary wall of a farmer's farmhouse during the ongoing protest. This action has sparked widespread anger among the demonstrators. Shortly after, reports emerged that FIRs have been registered against several farmers, further intensifying their resolve. The protesters claim that while their legitimate demands remain unaddressed, they are being targeted with legal action and intimidation.

In a strong warning to the authorities, the farmers have declared that if they are jailed, the women of their families will take over the protest site. If the women are also imprisoned, the children will continue the agitation. They have made it clear that the movement will not end under any circumstances. The farmers have now issued an ultimatum, giving the government time until Monday to initiate concrete negotiations and reach a consensus on their demands.

So far, the farmers have kept their protest apolitical, deliberately excluding political parties and leaders from their movement. However, they have threatened to invite opposition and ruling party leaders, along with farmer and social organizations from across the region, if the crackdown continues. Such a move, they warn, could transform the agitation into a much larger and more intense movement. The farmers have vowed that their struggle will persist until they receive full and fair compensation for their land along with complete restoration of their rights.
