Female leopard that attacked child in Bahraich finally captured safely

A female leopard has been successfully captured in a cage trap in the Katerniaghat Wildlife Division of Bahraich district after it attacked a child earlier this month.

The leopard had attacked a child in Matehi village under the Nishangadha Range of Katerniaghat Wildlife Division on 6 September, following which the forest department installed a cage trap to capture the animal. Since then, forest department teams had been actively working round the clock to capture the leopard that had become a threat to local residents.

The teams were conducting continuous patrols and keeping watch on the leopard's movements in the area. The teams finally achieved success last night when the leopard was trapped inside the cage. The animal was immediately shifted to a safe location after being captured.

A veterinarian conducted a thorough health examination of the captured leopard, which revealed the following details. The species is leopard (Panthera pardus). The gender is female. The age is approximately 6 to 7 years. The weight is approximately 45 to 50 kilograms. The health condition shows that she is completely healthy, active and displaying natural behaviour.

According to the medical conclusion by the veterinarian Dr. Deepak Verma, the leopard is fully fit for transportation and release in a safe area. Further action will be completed after obtaining necessary approvals from higher authorities and as per the rules.
