Farmers' union submits four-point demand to administration in Kanpur Dehat

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (non-political) organized a tahsil-level farmers and labourers panchayat at the Akbarpur tahsil headquarters in Kanpur Dehat district and submitted a memorandum highlighting four critical demands to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

The panchayat was convened under the chairmanship of tahsil president Mahavir Prasad Sahu. Following the assembly, representatives of the farmers' union handed over a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akbarpur, demanding immediate resolution of serious problems being faced by farmers and labourers in the region.

As per the national call of the organization, a panchayat is held at the tahsil level on the 9th of every month. During the meeting, apart from intensive discussions on the problems confronting farmers, a pledge for 'world peace' was also taken.

The memorandum raised four principal demands from the administration.

The first demand called for uninterrupted electricity supply in rural and agricultural areas in view of the severe heat, so that common people can get relief. The union demanded smooth power supply without any disruption.

The second demand focused on the availability of fertilizers and quality seeds. The memorandum requested that adequate quantities of DAP (diammonium phosphate) and urea fertilizers be made available at reasonable prices at cooperative societies and shops for farmers. Along with this, it was demanded that improved quality seeds be ensured at block offices and shops.

The third demand sought immediate action and justice against illegal occupation by land mafia. The memorandum stated that in village Raipur, the house of an aggrieved farmer named Surendra Singh has been subjected to illegal occupation and construction by land mafia, and demanded swift action in the matter.

The fourth demand concerned a land dispute related to the farmers' union office. The memorandum sought cognizance of the matter related to land acquired or selected for the Kisan Union office in village Aryanagar (Rajendra Chauraha) and demanded that the land be freed.

Office-bearers of the organization made it clear that if these legitimate demands of farmers are not addressed in time, farmers will be compelled to launch an aggressive agitation. The report was filed by Vivek Trivedi from Akbarpur, Kanpur Dehat.
