District Magistrate orders flood prevention work on Shravasti roads and embankments

District Magistrate Annpurna Garg has conducted field inspections of flood-prone infrastructure in Shravasti district, issuing directions to protect critical roads and embankments from erosion ahead of the potential monsoon flooding season. The inspections focused on the Siswar Ghat bridge approach road in Gilaula development block and the newly constructed Dondra embankment in Bhinga tehsil.

During the inspection of Siswar Ghat bridge, the District Magistrate instructed officials to take effective measures to prevent damage to the approach road under all circumstances. She directed the engineer from Setu Nigam present at the site to coordinate with the Executive Engineer of the Flood Works Division to carry out dredging operations. The DM emphasised that necessary materials must be procured and supplied to check erosion along the riverbanks, specifically calling for the use of geo sheets and bamboo crates to protect the road from potential flooding.

The District Magistrate further stressed that technical support should be sought from the Flood Division and anti-erosion works must be completed promptly so that residents of the district do not face severe difficulties in case of flooding. She underlined the importance of completing these preventive measures within the stipulated time frame.

At the Dondra embankment site, Executive Engineer of the Flood Works Division Akhilesh Kumar Gautam informed the District Magistrate that gap-filling work on the embankment has been completed and the structure has been raised to the High Flood Level. However, earthwork for the freeboard height remains pending. The DM directed that the remaining work to raise the embankment height must be completed within the designated deadline.

Executive Engineer Akhilesh Kumar Gautam and other staff members were present during the inspection. The proactive measures aim to minimise flood damage and ensure public safety during the upcoming monsoon season.
