Delhi removes nearly 48 lakh voters from electoral roll, deadline set for claims

Delhi's electoral office has removed 47.7 lakh names, nearly a third of the capital's 1.45 crore registered voters, from the draft electoral roll published on August 31, marking them as people who may have died, relocated, appear in duplicate entries or fall under "uncollectible" categories.

The draft follows a Special Intensive Revision exercise that ran from June 20 to August 17, and those excluded now have until September 30 to file claims for reinstatement using Form 6 with supporting documents, according to Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer. The final voter roll will be published on November 4.

Three ways to verify your registration

The Election Commission's voter services website offers three search methods. The first requires entering your Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number, selecting NCT of Delhi as your state, and completing a captcha. The second method asks for your name, relative's name as submitted in the SIR form, date of birth, age, gender, district and Assembly constituency. The third option allows search using a registered mobile number.

Filing a claim if your name is missing

Voters whose names do not appear must first cross-verify their historical registration at the Election Commission's dedicated portal using either 'Search by Elector Details' or 'Search in last SIR E-Roll' options. If the name still does not appear, they should register on the ECI voter website using an active mobile number and optional email ID.

After logging in, users must click on New Voter Registration or Form 6 and complete a mandatory lineage declaration with their own or their parents' historical voter roll details. The claim requires age and identity proof, Aadhaar card, passport or PAN card, plus Delhi address proof such as a recent electricity bill, water bill or bank passbook showing current residence.

Once submitted, the system generates a reference ID that allows real-time tracking of the claim's status. The Voter Helpline App, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, provides an alternative filing channel.

The September 30 deadline makes immediate action essential for the 47.7 lakh excluded voters who wish to participate in upcoming elections.
