Shravasti: A crocodile spotted in the Budhi Rapti River near the northern side of Kalkalwa Marginal Dam has triggered panic among locals and heightened security measures for Kanwar pilgrims. The sighting was reported by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel, who immediately informed the Forest Department. In response, nets have been installed in the river, and surveillance efforts have been intensified to ensure safety.

According to reports, SSB personnel from the 42nd Battalion, led by Sub-Inspector Pawan Kumar, were conducting patrols near the Janaki border post when the crocodile was seen. The reptile was spotted approximately 200 meters upstream from border pillar number 645/1, between the villages of Murela and Bhedhiya in the Malhipur police jurisdiction. Acting swiftly, the SSB team informed the Forest Department, which deployed officials to the site to monitor the situation.

The Forest Department has since set up nets in the river and is closely observing the crocodile's movements. The timing of the sighting is particularly concerning, as the last Monday of the holy month of Sawan is expected to draw large numbers of Kanwar pilgrims to the area for water collection and religious rituals. Authorities fear that the crocodile's presence could pose a risk to the devotees and have urged locals and pilgrims to exercise caution near the river.

Residents and visitors have been advised to avoid unnecessary activities near the riverbanks and to take special precautions while entering the water. Forest officials are maintaining constant vigilance to prevent any untoward incidents. The increased security measures aim to ensure the safety of the community and the pilgrims during this religious period.
